Common in the East Mountains
A lot of subdivisions and lot splits around Sandia Park, Sandia Knolls and Frost Road are served by private roads that the county doesn't maintain. Upkeep falls to the owners — sometimes through a formal road association, sometimes by informal agreement.
How we help
- Walk the road with whoever is organizing.
- Written options — for example, full asphalt, asphalt on the hills with chip seal elsewhere, or drainage and millings now with paving later.
- A clear price per option that makes splitting the cost straightforward.
- Phasing when the group wants to spread the work over seasons.
- Maintenance plan — crack sealing and sealcoating to protect the investment.

Drainage first
Private roads usually fail because of water. Ditches that have filled in, culverts that are plugged or too small, and no crown. Fixing that is often the first phase.

Questions we get
Can you bill several owners separately?
We can provide a price that's easy to divide. How it's collected is up to the group.
What's the cheapest way to improve a shared dirt road?
Fix the drainage and crown, then surface with millings or chip seal.
Do you work with road associations?
Yes — we provide written proposals for board or group review.
